Grindhouse and The Lives of Others

planet_terror_soundtrackdeeee.jpgGrindhouse:

I went to see this movie knowing only that it was a Rodriguez/Tarantino double-feature, which was of course more than enough to want to see it. But what I saw just blew my mind: Rodriguez’ film is gruesome in every possible way, and just the same, funny and brilliant. Tarantino’s movie was logic-lacking, random and  all the same, brilliant. 100% pure entertainment. Well worth the 3 1/2 hours.

The Lives of Others:

This incredible film, which is in German and subtitled in English, is as well directed as it is touching. With base in history right before the fall of the Berlin wall, it touches on personal lives under surveilance and the struggle of artists to keep their talent and dignity alive under extreme government scrutiny.
