Something’s in the air… and it ain’t rain

Today, I woke up to news of the worst earthquake to hit Japan in 140 years and tsunami warnings issued around the globe. After concern, my first thoughts were about a friend’s blog entry I read some weeks ago warning of a major event to take place 3/11 of this year. Here are the comments I just made on my friend’s blog – with some edits – which I think are worth sharing:

Added to the unrest in the Middle East and to the disaster in Japan occurring today, there are other things I’ve been noticing in my daily life.  I’m no doomsday student and don’t actively look for information of this sort. Just putting two and two together:

I recently saw an add on CNN about this website: http://www.endofamerica2011.com. Now, when you go there you’ll notice that the site will try to sell you something, i.e. e-books, investment vehicles, etc.; but much of what the guy in the video said made a lot of sense and I’ve been thinking about it every since. This company is trying to profit from the economic/social changes that might take place here in the US and banking on people’s fears, but the message is no less interesting and logical because of this. Some things he talks about are already happening. To name a few: Utah recently introduced a bill to allow people to use gold and silver as legal tenders (in re: to devaluation/replacement of the dollar), protests in Wisconsin, Maryland and even Iowa in the past month and of course the consistent rise of oil prices.

Then, on Monday, CNN ran a piece about doomsday prophecies and their history. They mentioned an American church whose followers have left jobs and families to go around the country and warn everyone about doomsday May 21, 2011. Last year, an old lady who has no internet access in the Dominican Republic and you could call a “bruja” mentioned a similar date for a major disaster to take place in May. Until this week, I had not heard about this date mentioned here in the US. Add to that the series The Nostradamus Effect that has been airing on the History Network since last year and all the hype surrounding 2012.

It just seems that, whether we believe it in it or not, the airwaves seem to be plagued with fear, and anticipation… Don’t stop paying your bills and don’t quit your job, but something’s in the air and it is weird.

Let’s be safe and have emergency kits in place. In the face of the unknown all we can do is observe and be aware.
