About

I write about life and love, food and flowers – whatever itches really. I started this blog in 2007. Back then, it was a place to vent. Over the years it has evolved into a space to share: recipes, things that amuse or bug me, statuses of the heart. Nowadays, I think of this blog as a part of my legacy, so some day my daughter can find out what her mother cared about, if she wants to. My notes on Dominican culture, I hope will help immortalize the elements of my motherland I find unique. Enjoy your visit!

One of my all time favourite quotes from Walden, residing on my dresser mirror here! To find it on your page, too, automatically makes me want to re-visit your site over and over again. I’ll be sure to read you thoroughly as time allows.

    • I want to start sticking quotes on my mirror…

Claudette, the phrase that was up on my “About” that I eventually took down went something like this: “I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately, I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to put to rout all that was not life and and see if I could not learn what it had to teach. And not, when I came to die to discover that I had not lived.” from Walden by Henry David Thoreau. Probably one of my favorite quotes of all time, as well as Molli’s.

Thanks Molli. Your blog rocks by the way.

Gracias por la visita. Estaré pasando por tu blog para leer más de tu poesía, y por supuesto, la que tengas en español.

  6. Loosely speaking, it strikes me that you’re blog is to Dominican culture what mine is to American. If I may quickly quote you: “My notes on Dominican culture, I hope, will help immortalize the elements of my motherland I find unique.” I like that recapitulation. It’s more or less what I had in mind with my website, though obviously I don’t phrase it quite so felicitously.

You may or may not be interested in the antisocialist dot com. Please take a quick look if you have a spare moment. Just incidentally, I found you through Ritwik, who liked one of my prose-poems, “The Truckdriver.” You might also be interested in “Car Crashes were invented in America” and “The Waitress,” all of which were written by me, or my fictional character, William James Morgan, RIP. Thank you for your literary brain and your literary beauty.

Very interesting. Since I am something of a culture whore, I will certainly be making your blog a must read of mine :)
